Does the series feel dated?

To me maybe because I grew up watching TNG and didn't watch any TOS until after I saw all the other series, it is just hard for me to get into the show. I still haven't seen more than half of them because they are hard for me to watch. I enjoy the movies alot so it's not that I don't like the cast or the premise. Maybe I'm just stubborn. TOS fanatics, tell me what you think?

It is definitly a product of it's time. I grew up watching it so it's like watching an old friend.
I still check the boards over at ST.com but lately its like beer and chips without the beer and the big chips are all gone. - Kang

IMO, it depends on how you view it. To me, some of the episodes messages are still relevant today. Some aren't so much any more. But in terms of effects, yes, it is dated. But the remastered episodes breathe new life into it.

The Visuals are dated..but the themes are timeless!!

While I was a product of the TNG generation... I started watching TOS first.. so it may be Nostalgia or something..

I definitely grew up watching TNG too, and when I first started watching TOS I had a bit of a hard time with them.

I started watching them more while living with my dad a few years ago, and after going through them all again recently I find them much easier to watch then TNG. I think it just has to do with what you are used to.

People tend to make fun of me for my love of acquired tastes though, so maybe it would be different for you if you tried to make it through them all.

Just that TOS is as dated as it appears is so much a part of its appeal now, to me having grown up with it. Something about it that just survives its age that it was a travesty to watch what they had done to it in the remastering attempts.

IM glad that it stopped and that I have the discs of the original airings.

Personaly I think that the early seasons of TNG are more dated than just about anything on TOS.

TOS screams low budget. TNG screams 80s

Well, TOS pretty much WAS "Wagon Train to the Stars" what can you expect from a 60's TV budget? amazing they managed what they did on it.
