Have not gotten my Target DVD yet but I did pick up the single DVD for $15.00.

I put it in my progressive scan DVD player hooked up to my Sony 50 inch rear projection TV darkened my room and watched the film with the commentary on.

I like DVD extras this was very interesting there were several voices telling the reasons why and how they did the various aspects of the film.

The fleshing out of the main crew's back story's was very well handled.
I really enjoyed seeing that crew again.

I was reminded of the same feeling seeing TMP when it came out.

The same with the Ship the new Enterprise is different but not to different as to be unrecognizable.

Nero is a weak Villain his motivation is unrealistic he is angry for the loss of Romulas but it was a natural disaster. Spock a Vulcan who has left the Federation and is working for reunification offers to try to save Romulas but fails. Nero is thrown back in time and some how knows Spock will be to .

Nero comes across a Federation ship disables it questions the Captain and finds out he is in the past. Instead of returning home with vital info on his Planets fate he waits 20 plus years hoping Spock to was sucked into the wormhole.

As luck would have it Spock was.
He captures Spock then lets him live to see Vulcan destroyed with the Red Matter that could save Romulas, granted only a small amount is needed to create a wormhole but Spock is carrying enough to destroy the Universe :wtf:

So I'm not happy with the whole Nero is going to destroy the Federation because a Defector from it promised to save his people and failed.

Now the Kirk and the Kobayashi Maru cheat. Well done

Dr McCoy  His getting Kirk on to Enterprise perfect.

Uhura :frust: Brilliant Linguist turned in to gutter tramp

Spock Great job Quintos The affair with a student :rollingpin:

Checkov Funny but shades of Wesley Crusher

Scotty  Not the Miracle Worker we all loved but an interesting take

Sulu worked

Kirk Pine did a great job but going from Cadet to Captain in under 4 years impossible, unbelievable ,deal breaker , total fantasy.

Pike well done I like how he is not reduced to a blinking light :cheers1:

It is a fun film to watch but there are plot holes you can fly a Starship through.

Hopefully Trek XII will have a story to put all of the good elements into . Just as TWOK did with the best of TMP.

No need for explanation
Thats exactly what I was thinking TW....Trek XI was pretty much: lets make up a reason for alternate timeline and figure out a way to reveal the TOS hookups and shed a little light on some of the ambiguous past (Kobayashi Maru). Hopefully now with all that out of the way, we can work in an actual plot for the next one

It was very fast paced and somewhat contrived and forced in places, and honestly, Im still trying to process all I absorbed, but I'm going to have to rewatch to get past the initial shock of taking something that was so classic, and made real efforts to be as real as it could be, only to have this new revisit trying to shoe-horn hip-ness into it for todays movie going crowd.

Uhura - Vulcan Love slave - whod've thunk? Not me.
My poop doesn't smell. Comes out in pretty colors. Denny Crane

I watched it with the commentary on after the kids left for the day.

Really interesting to hear what was cut and some of the lines that were would have been really cringe worthy if left.

McCoy's line right at the end for example

"same ship different day'

*groan*

However i think that Kirk's line after beating the test should have been left in

"anything else"

A really good commentary and you can tell these guy's cared about what they created

I'm really excited to see what they came up with for the next film
